The final solar eclipse of 2021

Dec 01, 2021

Welcome to the grande finale of the year!

December is a jitterbug of ironies, pelleting us one by one with confusing oppositions. What you see isn’t what you get. The senseless makes sense. The reverse is also true.

Our journey through the misty moors of irony begins on December 4th with the last solar eclipse of the year (in the Vedic sign of Scorpio).

Scorpio never likes to reveal what’s behind her smooth social front. She shows one side to the public and keeps the other fiercely hidden, deep within.

The absolute worst offense one can commit—in the eyes of Scorpio—is to expose what’s underneath her polished exterior. Exposure limits her power. Her power is to keep us guessing.

Yet Scorpio is a healer. She heals by ripping off the bandage of pretense, exposing the raw truth.

The December 4th eclipse is a final sacred moment of 2021 that closes the curtain on what began in 2020. It exposes everything we have yet to heal brought on by the pandemic.

Healing is a disrupting process. That’s why it’s often described as a “crisis.” Ironically, it’s the crisis—things coming to a head—that facilitates the return to wholeness.

People often ask me what’s best to do during an eclipse.

In the Vedic tradition, it’s considered auspicious to turn within when the sky darkens—and allow yourself to be pulled into its cleansing power. Meditation amplifies. Inner peace quickens.

It’s not advised to go outside and look at the eclipse—because that same power applied externally causes disintegration. Matter can’t stand before it. Your plans dissolve.

So eclipses are ironic. They’re great for achieving inner peace and not so great for worldly accomplishments. For this reason, it’s advised not to make important decisions on eclipses.

If this sounds superstitious, it is. The truth is we’re all stronger than any of these forces. We aren’t their victims, but rather their partners.

Vedic astrology teaches us the art of co-participation with the universal energies. And eclipse season is motivating me to share more about it with you. Stay tuned for upcoming offerings about how you can learn the mind-blowing art and science of Jyotisha (Vedic astrology) with me…and gain insights as to how it applies to your life.

It’s “festive season” here in India and after a very taxing year, it feels like such a relief!

There’s a different kind of mood in the air—not somber like you would expect after all the death and suffering India has endured. But rather a “live for this moment” kind of jubilance.

It’s nice to be home.

From my heart,

Dr. Katy
